Can Infrared Sauna Reduce Thyroid Disease Symptoms?

Infrared Sauna. Before my diagnosis, I had no idea of the different types of thyroid conditions that already existed. Heck, I didn’t even know where the thyroid was. It is true I am embarrassed to admit it but I think I didn’t pay attention to my anatomy high school class… Haha! Although, I am not alone as I have found during the course of my journey many people that don’t know it either. It is until I share with them my story we end up having many aha moments.

Anyhow, as a quick review, the thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland based in our necks. The thyroid gland produces hormones that regulate the body’s metabolic rate-controlling heart, muscle, and digestive function, brain development, and bone maintenance. Its proper function depends on a good supply of iodine from our diets. No wonder so many people are iodine deficient due to poor diet lifestyles. The most common types of thyroid diseases are Hashimoto’s, Hypothyroidism, Hyperthyroidism, Thyroid nodules, Goiter, Thyroiditis, and Thyroid Cancer. Phew! that’s a lot to deal with for such a small organ yet very powerful as it regulates so many functions in our bodies.

In my healing journey I have heard many doctors, healers, say you must detox and many coincide that one of the most effective ways to accomplish this is at a cellular level is through “Infrared Sauna” therapy.

What is Infrared Sauna?

Infrared sauna, also known as Waon Therapy, uses light to create heat, unlike traditional saunas that heat the air around you. These cool saunas, use infrared lamps to warm your body directly. Infrared saunas use infrared panels to penetrate human tissue heating your body before the air.

Is Infrared Sauna better than a Traditional Sauna?

According to the Mayo Clinic, “a traditional sauna uses heat to warm the air, which in turn warms your body. An infrared sauna heats your body directly without warming the air around you.”

What are the Benefits of Infrared Sauna?

There are so many claimed benefits to using Infrared Sauna, these include:

How does Infrared Sauna help reduce Thyroid Disease symptoms ?

In my journey I had to follow so many different types of healing protocols but I can tell you this is the one I enjoyed the most. I usually go at least three times a week for about 35-45 minutes depending on how much I am able to tolerate that given day. The temperature rises to 145F and it is my absolute me time. I usually bring a book or just relax and enjoy my time there. This detox time brings much relaxation keeping my adrenal glands working at their optimal levels boosting my mood and helping me relax. This will keep all stress hormones in check relieving all tension and stress. We know stress plays a huge role in most chronic illnesses such as Hashimoto’s disease and Thyroid Cancer.

Additionally, infrared sauna helps people to manage a detox protocol, allowing you to start slow and work your way to your desired regimen. We know that our skin is our largest organ and sweating in an infrared sauna will help you flush out all toxins your body has built up. This includes cellular waste from things we eat, drink, and chemicals from our environment. Toxins like pesticides, fluoride, herbicides, and heavy metals will be released with ease during an infrared sauna session. It is essential to start slow and work your way up.

It is also known that infrared sauna therapy will stimulate your immune system by increasing your white blood cell count, giving you more ammunition for fighting cancer cells and to improve your immune response in general. At the same time, the heat opens up your blood vessels, which enhances blood flow deep in your tissues. It also relaxes your muscles and joints. All of this can combine to provide pain relief.

How to use Infrared Sauna?

  • Drink water
  • Choose the right temperature for you (start 100F till 145F)
  • Select the right length of time for your session (suggested 20-30 min)
  • Dress light or go naked
  • Let your body cool down after a session
  • Start with one session and work yourself up (3 – 4 x a week)
  • Listen to your body

Conclusion

Sweating is a terrific tool to keep us healthy and help us rid of toxins and detoxify. Infrared sauna offers so many wonderful benefits for people in general and those dealing with chronic illnesses such as cancer, and thyroid diseases such as Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism. It is important to be safe and always consider the benefits and contraindications when selecting a sauna and any healing protocol.

Also, it is a good idea to get a medical clearance from your doctor if you have any health conditions such as high blood pressure, heart problems, or are under medical care, before your first session. Even though infrared saunas have been found to be fairly safe, you don’t want to take any chances when it comes to your health and safety. As always, I welcome your comments and I would love to hear your experiences with this amazing therapy. Until next time – stay safe & healthy!
