4 Things That Happened When I Started Eating Collagen

Eating Collagen. Collagen is a protein made up of amino acids which our body uses as building blocks to give structure to our hair, skin, nails, bones, ligaments and much more.

At the beginning of my thyroid cancer healing journey I followed a very strict plant-based diet but my doctors and I recently discovered issues with my gut which led to a new diagnosis. A wellness advocate, and dear friend of mine, recommended I take collagen to regenerate and restore what had been lost.

Within 3 days of taking collagen, I quickly noticed these 4 things:

1. Improved Digestion – Eating Collagen

A good digestive system is the basis for good overall health. When your stomach lining is healthy and the digestive juices are working correctly, your food is processed more efficiently into the small and large intestines, where the nutrients are absorbed. When I added vital proteins collagen supplement to my diet, I noticed an immediate improvement in my digestion. That’s because collagen helps strengthen the stomach lining, regulates stomach acids, and helps with water absorption in the intestines. Those things all contribute to keeping things moving in a healthy way.

2. Help Treat Acid Reflux

Adding collagen to your diet can also help treat acid reflux. As mentioned previously, collagen can regulate stomach acid production. One of the key components to acid reflux and GERD is actually a lack of adequate stomach acid, not an excess of it. If there isn’t enough stomach acid, your food can’t be properly digested, and all kinds of issues are created. I was diagnosed with Barrett’s Esophagus, which is caused by GERD. When I began taking collagen, my symptoms improved dramatically, as my stomach was finally able to process food in the way it’s supposed to.

3. Repairs Leaky GUT

When you have issues like GERD and acid reflux, for any length of time, oftentimes you can develop leaky gut syndrome, which is when the digestive tract becomes permeable and allows harmful toxins to escape into your gut, causing health issues. Due to the immediate improvements I noticed in my overall health when I began taking collagen, I suspect I may have developed that as well. Because collagen is a building protein, it will begin to repair your stomach lining and heal anything that has been damaged.

4. Immediate Glow – Eating Collagen

Finally, I noticed a distinct and immediate glow, both inside and out, when I began taking collagen daily. The inner glow is, of course, associated with the internal benefits of collagen. However, there are external benefits as well. Collagen is a powerful anti-aging tool. The same properties that collagen employs to repair your stomach lining, and even improve your joint health, will also begin to heal and repair aging skin, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles and giving you an overall glow. It can also increase your muscle mass, which will in turn boost your metabolism, aiding in weight loss, but also giving you an energy boost.

Final Thoughts

Collagen, when sourced from a reputable company like Vital Proteins, using high-quality collagen from grass-fed beef can be a huge resource for your overall health and immune system. Almost like a fountain of youth, collagen can improve your digestion, joint health, energy levels, metabolism, and reduce or even reverse the signs of aging. Added to an already healthy and balanced diet, I believe this supplement can be extremely beneficial.

have you tried the sleeping position best for acid reflux? It’s very helpful too.

      Hello Cathy,

I am so sorry you are going through this believe me I understand. But let me tell you there’s hope 🙂
What has worked to alleviate my symptoms a great deal is staying true to an alkaline diet, I mean really intentional on eating foods with a high PH 7 or higher at least for a couple of months. Same with water, I purchase Alkaline water with a PH of 9+ and I avoid animal protein specially red meat for now during the detox and healing process. A book that helped me to sort this out is the Acid Reflux Diet by Dr. Jamie Koufman and Dropping acid the reflux diet. It helped me a great deal to understand what was happening to me and to take control of my health if I wanted to.

Another great food that continues to help me is Aloe Vera gel. I purchase mine from Aloe 1… They offer a clean and unprocessed aloe which I believe has helped me a great deal too.
I’ve also changed my sleeping position so I bought me the Medcline and I can only say what a difference.. WOW
Of course some mild exercise like walking helps with stress management too.

Implementing all these have caused for all my symptoms to fade but I know that at least for me this is an indefinite life style change. And of course I strongly believe in the power of prayer and speaking life to our bodies. I will provide links to all these below. I hope and pray this is helpful and that you find relieve from all your symptoms very soon.

I truly hope my short summary and my own experience helps you find answers for your healing.

      God bless you!

      Love & Hugs

      Karen

Have you had your stomach acid checked ? Most find that they have too low of stomach acid, or not acidic enough. For the lower esophageal sphincter to close the acidity must be below a PH of 4 or 3. And even though the stomach acid is not acidic enough for the sphincter to close, the acid is still strong enough to burn the tissues in your esophogus.

Hi Karen, I have recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. My hair and skin have changed and my weight is climbing. Did this help your hair and nails and did it help curb your appetite at all?
    Thank you 🙂

    Ms. Berrios,
I am 43 I have had so much happen over the last 7-10 years it’s uncanny. I was in a bad wreck that left me in debilitating pain. I had an L4-L5/S1 fusion and a Spinal Cord Stimulator implanted. I’ve been on PPIS for 7 years. I found out by a CT Scan I had a very small Hiatal Hernia. This Is debilitating and left me scared for the future. I’m been researching: Nissen Fundoplication, LINX and Tif, but I’m to scared to have anything like this done. I went cold turkey from drinking soda pop: DR.P it’s day 3. Dec.31 I felt I needed to give this to God and I have. I’m eating lean meats, leafy green veggies and trying to drink plenty of water. I know I’m absolutely scared but in Romans 8: 26-28. I see a Gastroenterologist on the 16th. I also was told to get two books: Dropping Acid & Eating with Acid Reflux. I went to my local library and found an awesome book so simple to read that has over 100 receipes. The book is The Acid Reflux solution by Jorge E. Rodríguez MD a gastroenterologist and obese male w/GERD. He lost weight and made it. I know it will be a long road but I declare this healing in the name of Jesus. I will end with this. I was scrolling through the channels on Dec.31 to watch the ball drop and landed on TBN, I’ve always watched but had lost hope and saw Passion 2020 w/ Laurie & Matt Crouch. I felt fire and believe my healing is on its way. As stated, I have a very small hiatal hernia and wonder if it can heal/repair on its CB own without Surgery?? Tyvm for your testimony. It gives me hope. Trying to put a menu etc together, and making sure I eat right is daunting and don’t want to make things worse. What’s your diet/ weekly meal entail if I may ask? Have a blessed day.

Hi? Here in Africa Kenya we treat reflux by consuming the white( jelly) part of the Aloevera.Believe me it’s the best medicine for reflux acid.Just get that green plant and wash it, leave it in very hot water so that it can soften.Take a knife and peel off the white jelly out .Put in a glass container and consume it everyday.

    • Joleen reed on May 9, 2020 at 4:18 am

I need something like that too. The powder has caused my reflux to scar my lungs, I have a hiatal hernia too. But def see improvement in my skin.

I’m using a collagen peptide powder and I love the good thing s it is doing. Hair, skin, nails – all improved and hopefully bones and joints. However it has flared up gerd like crazy. I hate to give up the great benefits but I can’t afford to bring on more gerd.
