Is Fear a Sin?

Is Fear a Sin? Fear is a normal emotion experienced by humans when facing danger or a situation we intuitively know or feel wrong. Emotions are part of God’s design and these help us collect information to make decisions and take actions. The Bible says we should always guard our eyes, our ears, and our hearts because we will be influenced by what we see, hear, and feel. The Bible also points out that God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

How is it that fear could be sinful? God judges fear as harshly as any sin discussed in the Bible. We fall into sinful fear when we exchange it from our trust in God. When we live in chronic fear at all times and refuse to believe our Lord Jesus. When we let ourselves be robbed of our peace and trust in Him. When we let fear take over our circumstances.

Although, there are many passages in the Bible that tell us “Do Not Fear” yet many of us fall into this deceptive lie. Choosing to let go of our “Trust” in Jesus yields authority to the spirit of fear to take over us. Fear can paralyze us from moving into God’s calling for our lives and stop us from living life to the fullest. The comfort zone or what is familiar is usually preferred over progress. Today, I encourage you to believe and trust Jesus over your circumstances. Break this spirit of fear and partner with Him to believe that you can be healed and finish this race of life strong to be everything God has created you to be.

He tells you… “Do not fear; Zion, let not your hands be weak. The Lord your God is in the midst, The Mighty One will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

Prayer Declaration

Heavenly Father, forgive me for partnering with fear, for letting myself be tricked into believing my circumstances are more powerful than You. For letting the outside noise rob my peace and trust in You. Today, I surrender this spirit of fear in exchange I receive your peace, your love, and your protection over me and my circumstances. I rest in knowing that You rejoice over me with gladness and singing, quieting any fears with Your love. In Jesus’ name, I pray amen!
