Psychology of Cancer Stage 10: Exhaustion

Psychology of Cancer Stage 10: Exhaustion

Continuing the “Psychology of Cancer” series we are now focusing on stage 10 – Exhaustion. This stage is loaded with heaviness not only at a physical level but also at an emotional and mental state. According to the flower society, this state of exhaustion is described as “The prolonged heavy soul pressure finally results in tremendous exhaustion, both physical and emotional. Under the particular stress, the person can find no rest, no “inner sunshine,” and no “air” for the soul to breathe and to refresh. Life becomes a burden.”

I am grateful I have not experienced this stage, but I have witnessed others experience it up close and personal. Trying to survive at this level is the most challenging thing I have witnessed. Not only are you in constant mental warfare but your body is no longer able to catch up with your most inner desire to survive. This is deeply impactful to the patient and his/her family. Your inner being says you must go on and fight, yet you are left feeling exhausted and defeated, ready to give up. Please don’t take me wrong, but there’s no bigger judge for feeling this way other than ourselves. It is almost as if you wish you could just throw in the towel and let yourself go. The guilt and pressure placed on the patient is enormous and so heart heavy. The feeling of failing not just to yourself but those you love, for not having the energy to care for the needs of your loved ones… This is hard. Mothers dealing with this stage are so so hard on themselves, and I truly understand. Parenting is hard in regular conditions, imagine being absent because you are fighting for your life and you can’t care for your children the way you want to. Or the fathers that no longer are able to provide for their families financially, and so on.

If this describes you, what can you do?

I wish I had the perfect answer for you, but I don’t. I do know however, that at this stage you are very likely to have passed fear, anger, hopelessness, or despair. You are just EXAUSTED and wish this all could stop. I can’t even tell you what I would do but I can tell you what I’ve seen others do in this stage to overcome. I think there is no help available out there other the divine intervention. The bible says… “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

Many of you may say yeah yeah, the bible, God, but I have witnessed how God has not come through for me or others…!!! I understand YOU and I don’t have answers for you on that regard, but I am CONVINCED of God’s existence and his word (the bible) is alive and it is filled with TRUTH. How you choose to fight your battles is your personal choice. It may look like God is nowhere to be found in the midst of all your pain but let me tell you He is alive and willing to walk with you if you let him in your heart. He cares for you more than you know. Surrendering to Him may even seem weak as you surrender all control to this invisible higher power and trust He will come through for you. Let me tell you, He always does but perhaps not in the way you have thought. I have witnessed His faithfulness in my life and others and He will never leave you or forsake you. I promise!!

Today, I want to encourage you to fight your battle in complete surrender to Him and let His peace that surpasses all understanding wash over you in the midst of your circumstances. Let your faith be bigger than your doubt and fear. Let exhaustion be no more and rest in Him. He is enough for you to overcome.

“Fight the temptation to give up and walk your life filled with hope for your future.
