It’s easy to get stuck in “I’ll be joyful when” mode. You start thinking, “I’ll be joyful when the lab work shows zero on those cancer markers,” or “I’ll be joyful when I feel like my old self again.” Or even, “I’ll be joyful when I’ve been cancer-free for five years.” But this type of thinking is a never-ending cycle, and it robs you of the joy that you’re meant to experience today. Instead of telling yourself “I’ll be joyful when,” decide that you’ll be joyful today. And keep reaffirming this decision every day.
